PT Semen Gresik group try to improve the performance of its employees not only by giving them big bonuses, but also by holding Semen Gresik Group award on Innovation (SGG-AI) 2010. The competition will certainly improve the performance of employees in a significant manner.
According to Enngun Purwoko, Head of Research development and Quality Assurance Division of Semen Gresik, the competition has been conducted for the second time and has always been expectedly able to encourage more innovative ideas, therefore realizing the company’s vision to be a world class company.
“Almost 70 percent of the result of the 2009’s innovations has been implemented in the company and turned out to successfully suppress our cost of operation up to more than 300 billions. One of those real innovations is the implementation of biomass use, obtained from sawdust and factory waste to replace fuel and coal which have been increasing in their prices significantly,” Enggun Purwoko explains during a press conference on SGG-AI at Primarasa restaurant of Surabaya, Monday (February 21st, 2011).
This year, the organizing committee of SGG-AI 2010 has prepared a total prize of Rp400 millions for the winning participants. The number of the participants is also significantly increasing in the year’s competition, reaching 123 teams. They are 18 teams from PT Semen Padang, 34 teams from PT Semen Tonasa, and 71 teams from PT Semen Gresik.
“In addition to winning some fresh money, the winning participants will also have better opportunities for their future carrier ladder,” he explains.
The increasing number of participants happens to trouble the jury from Surabaya Institute of Technology since most of those participating contestants are not only excellent in fields, but also knowledgeable about industrial world.
“Many of them, even, graduated from overseas universities. We feel like in the hall for a dissertation examination. There are a lot of fantastic works of innovation. And we hope the management of Semen Gresik Group is now thinking about obtaining patents on their innovations before other parties duplicate them,” explains Tantowi, one of the jury members who also works a lecturer of Industrial Faculty of Surabaya Institute of Technology.
According to the plan, the innovation works will be published for the public on Wednesday (February 23, 2011) at Grand City Convex of Surabaya. The award-granting ceremony will be attended by State Minister for State Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar.
