In the first four months of 2012, cement demand growth rate reached 16.6% nationally. The growth rate of cement demand in Java is very significant. Therefore, in line with the operation of the Tuban IV cement making owned by the national cement producer PT Semen Gresik (Persero), the production volume is prioritized to meet market demand in East Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta.
"The growth rate of the national cement demand in the first four months of this year was incredible, reaching 16.6%. In Java alone, the cement demand growth rate reached 20% more," said Semen Gresik President Director Dwi Soetjipto to reporters in Surabaya few days ago.
The data shows the first four months of 2012, the total cement consumption nationally reached 16.6 million tons. Of these, the total cement consumption in Java alone reached 8.9 million ton. Thus, the cement consumption in Java is more than 50% of total cement consumption in Indonesia.
From the above data, the consumption of cement in East Java in the first four months of 2012 reached 2.02 million tons more, Central Java with 1.7 million tons, Yogyakarta with 239 thousand tons, West Java with 2.34 million tons, Banten with 976 million tons , and Jakarta with 1.59 million tons.
"Therefore, after the Tuban IV plant is in operation and starts production, our focus is directed to the allocation of the production for Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta. We are optimistic that demand for cement will continue to grow significantly and the rate is higher than the national economic growth," explains Dwi.
From May 2012, the project of the Tuban IV plant has included in the construction stage of the finish mill. In April, a progress report of the construction of the plant with a production capacity of 3 million tons per year only reached the stage of cement mill. "In principle, the Tuban IV plant is ready to be inaugurated," said Dwi.
The Tuban IV factory located in Districts of Merakurak and Kerek, Tuban of East Java has completed the number of cement plant units owned by Semen Gresik Group. With the completion of the IV Tuban plant, in 2012, production of Semen Gresik is estimated to reach between 12 million tons and 12.5 million tons per year. "The new plant is usually only able to produce 80% of existing capacity," he said.
In addition to building the Tuban IV cement plant, Semen Gresik Group is also building Tonasa V cement plant in Pangkep of South Sulawesi. According to the plan, in late August or early September 2012, the cement plant with production capacity of 2.5 million tons per year will start its production. "The construction the Tonasa V cement plant is estimated to be completed and operational in late August or early September 2012," he said.
With the completion of the Tuban IVand Tonasa V cement plants, in 2012 the production rate of Semen Gresik Group (Semen Gresik, Semen Padang and Semen Tonasa) will reach 23 million tons to 25 million tons. So, the additional production is likely to increase the market share of Semen Gresik until above 40% nationally.
