National cement producer, PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk has a target to dominate 45 percent of cement market share. The increase in market share is targeted in line with the operation of its cement plant Tuban IV by the end of 2011 and Semen Tonasa in the first quarter of 2012.
Corporate Secretary of PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk Prionomurti Sunardi says the target is set after studying the growth and demand in the domestic market which has been continuously increasing from year to year.
"This year our market share dropped to 41 percent due to the factor of limited production and the new cement plants of Semen Tuban IV Semen and Semen Tonasa in South Sulawesi are not operating yet," he said, Wednesday (24/08/2011).
Sunardi Prionomurti acknowledged, the management not only relies on the two new cement plants, but also upgrades the production capacity at the plants which has been operating.
"In order to achieve the target of 45 percent market share. The production capacity of our factory located in Tuban is upgraded from 7,500 tons per day to 9,000 tons per day," he said.
Based on data of PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk, the prospect of cement industry in Indonesia is still widely open. This is in line with increased economic growth which is estimated to reach 6.7 percent through 2012. Meanwhile, domestic demand for cement is forecast to grow 10 percent, triggered by the growing property sectors and the government's infrastructure programs.
